Compliance Advanced Permissions Recorder records the permissions that are needed to perform a specific task or function in Business Central, and saves them as a permission set. Instead of guessing which permissions a role needs, you let the user do the task and the Recorder writes down what was used.
Building a permission set by hand is slow and error-prone. Too few permissions and the user is blocked by an error. Too many and the set is a risk. With the Recorder you:
You can record a new set, overwrite a set that turned out to be wrong, or add to a set that was incomplete. You can also refine the result with a "universal" permission set that every user already has, so the new set does not repeat those permissions.
Advanced Permissions Recorder. Find the permissions a task needs. A user must post sales invoices. Which permissions does that need? Guess too few and the user gets errors. Guess too many and the access is a risk. Open Record Permissions. Choose the session of the user who will do the task. Name the new permission set. All object types and all permissions are switched on, so nothing is missed. Choose Start and confirm. Now the user does the task in their own session. Back in the recorder, choose Update Recorded Permissions. Every object that was used is listed, with the permissions it needed. When the task is done, choose Stop to save the set. The new permission set holds exactly what the task needed. Check it, assign it, and keep it up to date. Record the permissions, do not guess. Advanced Permissions Recorder, by 2-Controlware. Free after registration.
Video (80 seconds): record a permission set from a second session, check the recorded permissions and save the set.
The two apps do different jobs and work well together. The Recorder creates a permission set from what a user does. Advanced Permissions Management (APM) tracks every later change to your permission sets, lets you review them and roll back a user-defined set.
A good routine: record the set for a task with the Recorder, check it with the quality check of APM, and let APM keep the history from then on. The Recorder works without APM, and APM works without the Recorder.
